THE JEWISH MUSEUM. CUISINE
ABOUT THE PROJECT
On February 7, in the Jewish Museum Tolerance Center Shtetl hall with the permanent exposition a new interactive installation ‘Cuisine’ opened
The educational installation is dedicated to Jewish sub-ethnic groups – Mountain Jews, Bukharan Jews, Georgian Jews, Crimean Jews, and Ashkenazi Jews. The museum offers to learn them better through their traditional cuisine.
STYLE
When creating the installation ‘Cuisine’ we adhered to the main criterion - to recreate an authentic style capable of conveying the culinary history of the Jewish people with its traditions and customs
To achieve this goal, we developed a non-standard setup with a phygital table which we located in the kitchen setting.
VIDEO CONTENT
We recreated cuisines of different nations using only natural materials as props for the visitor to see and learn the history of the people as well as the unique characteristics of different cuisines. Virtual housewives in national costumes guide the visitors to the world of gastronomy. They will tell the audience about a dish and teach how to cook it. Anyone can download the recipe using a QR code and try and cook the dish at home.
CHOICE OF A DISH
When visiting the exposition ‘Cuisine’, you can learn about 23 dishes that can be selected by rotating the table
HISTORY
The visitors can learn the history of the people who invented the dish as well as see the location of the people on the map.
MUSEUM OBJECTS
In a cuisine zone, there is a window case displaying objects from the museum collection. There is a QR code for every object storing a detailed description.
